Verlinden Modeling Magazine Vol.10 No.3

In late 1944, somewhere on the vast Eastern Front, the Germans are giving up their conquests and trying to stay in front of the Ked Army. A retreat under fire is an attempt to create order out of chaos. This diorama represents such a time in the life of an army. This diorama features a disabled Panzer IV/70(A). A tank destroyer on the Panzer IV chassis, it mounted the long-barreled 75mm PaK42. Except for the lower superstructure, which was vertical, the vehicle was similar to the Panzer IV/70, thus the "A" designation. Between August 1944 and March 1945, 278 were produced. It was nose-heavy and had all-steel road wheels at the first four positions. Most of the Panzer IV/70 (A)s were deployed to the Eastern front. These are the basic parts of the kit with the carriers removed and mounted for painting. Just a small amount of cleaning up is needed and can be done with a hobby knife and sandpaper. I then scrub them with Scotchbrite, and prime with Polly S Flat varnish. It is allowed to dry for 24 hours. The tunic that sticks out from the smock is painted Humbrol Matt Olive Drab 66. The helmet is painted Matt 67 Tank Gray and Matt 64 Light Gray using a wet-on-wet technique.
