Building Military Dioramas Vol.III

The LVT-4 enjoyed many improvements over the earlier LVT series with the repositioning of the engine behind the driver s compartment, including a rear loading ramp and a larger cargo area. The rear opening ramp simplified loading & unloading, and provided landing troops with better protection when dismounting, and the cargo area was large enough to carry jeeps or 105mm howitzers. The LVT-4 was produced in more numbers than any other LVT production run, accounting for almost half of all LVT production. It saw extensive use in the pacific theater by the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps, and by England and Italy in Europe. There has not been an injection plastic kit of the LVT series of vehicles for modelers until the new Italeri LVT-4 'Water Buffalo appropriately filled the void. The basic kit is quite good (although the benches in the cargo bed are curious), and just BEGS for an interior. VP has responded in kind with a full interior, complete with a detailed driving compartment and fully exposed engine compartment.
