The application of the Schema Mim-tico a Reticolo is rather unique. Whereas on most mottled finishes one finds that a base colour is used over which different coloured mottles are sprayed, the method used in this scheme was reversed. The Giallo mimetico was first sprayed evenly over the uppersurfaces first, the other two colours being sprayed over lo form a net which leaves the base colour in the shape of mottles. The design, applied by hand, differed considerably from aircraft to aircraft, depending on the ability and artistry of the painter. Photographs of the period fully confirm the introduction on wide scale of Reticolo scheme, sometimes with sparse and sometimes with dense effects.
